Does anyone suffer from MVPS (mitral valve prolapse syndrome - heart related) or know anyone that does?

Basically a valve in your heart which is a little leaky and not working 100%.
http://www.nursing.wright.edu/practice/mvp/default.htm

I'm feeling the symptoms and I know I'll get the mandatory "go see a doctor", but I've been to a cardiologist who couldn't find anything, though I suffer from all the symptoms. It's a hard to diagnose disease.

Just seeing if anyone knows anything about it.
I'm 23 yr old male, very healthy IMO, non-smoker/drinker (no caffienated drinks) and underweight but I guess it's a genetic condition.
At least it's not life threatening, but definitely life changing :(

My wife has had that since she was a kid shes now 30 so don't worry too much its a common thing actually alot of people have it, In fact I had the symtoms of it when I was a kid but it went away by the time I was 16 or 17.

But if your still concerned get a second opinion.

Good Luck, Later

My 22 year old stepdaughter was just diagnosed with this condition and it seems as if she has had it for years and it went misdiagnosed. Her father in law is one of the biggest cardiologists in Houston and he told her not to worry as it is a very common and easily treatable condition. You need to go see a specialist and have them come up with a drug regimen for you. It is that simple. It can easily be controlled with daily medicine.

The Doctors thought I had it so since they were opening me up anyway they were going to take a look. I don't remember if they found that I did or didn't but either way my heart is okay now! Go see your doctor. If for no other reason than to say you are fine.

You are not pre-med are you?

Unless you are a doctor, self-diagnosing makes you a complete idiot. Let a real doctor figure out what's wrong with you.

My friend has it. He found out during his Junior year of High School, and he's in his 3rd year of college now.

I don't really think it affected his life a whole lot.

Thanks for the kind words.

I've been to a cardiologist, one of the best in the city, but he did not find anything. Like I said, it's very hard to diagnose because of it's on/off nature. I had an echo and stress EKG that did not find anything.
It doesn't make it any easier that I don't have health insurance.

I am not in pre-med, but a condition like this makes me want to go specialize in this field, just because a lot of cases get misdiagnosed, as seen in the MVPS forum that I just started reading.

Bump for the night folks.

Hearing that I'm not the only one with this condition makes me feel more at ease.

Thanks :D
