Does anyone still play SWG?

I have a bit of an itch to try it again, as the compilation is dirt cheap. Problem is, I just checked out the official message boards and all I see are idiotic, barely readable posts. Are there any servers with good "grownup" player associations, or should I scrap the idea of trying this game out?

Not really. When I did try the trial over christmas, I found the basic game more playable than when I left after beta.


However (and I don't know if there could be a bigger one) all everyone (it seems) that still plays does is to complain about sony/nge so I bailed (again) after my trial.

Yeah. I played for a couple of months at launch, then again for a short spell in early 2004. It was definitely a love-hate relationship. A good game that was marred, as far as I could tell, by insufficient development funding and poor management.

i might start again too.... swg was the only mmorpg i really liked even though everyone bashed on it... it was fun..

Funny you ask... I recently came back. I use to play when the game was first released. I am really enjoying the game again. The only thing I hate is that I feel like a big loser because I waste so many hour playing.

Yeah self-control is the key. It's tough and I can't say that I have a good mastery of it.

I recently tried the freebie trial and unfortunatley NGE combat is still the same.

Quite a few of the swg-haters are going back to the game though...Here's a forum that should have more mature discussions regarding the game - just scroll down to "Star Wars Galaxies" section.

I personally know several SGW Devs, and in private they were incredibly caustic about the management and decisions made on the game. The guys at the top were strictly after the money. It was a Star Wars game: built in audience galore. If they'd even done a half assed job on it.....

AT least the original release didn't get in the way of players as much. But it was hamstrung by cynical and incompetant money grubbing from the start.
