Does anyone still make S-PVA monitors?

We just got the Dell U2410 monitors and the black levels look like crap compared to the "old" 2408wfp they replaced. I would like something like the 2408wfp but Dell does not sell it anymore.

Have you calibrated it?

HP's version of the same panel (ZR24W) as the dell u2410 has lower black levels if you wanted to try that, in the same range as VA monitors. It's color accuracy doesn't seem to be quite as good as the u2410 though.

There's also the older HP LP2475W which has excellent black depth and excellent color quality.

There's also this PVA monitor that is regularly on sale at geeks.

It's really 1920x1200, I have no idea why they list it as 1080p.

TFT Central's review of the ZR24W states that the black level is worse than the u2410. I will check out the LP2475W but it's disappointing that newer monitors are taking a step back with black, which is a very important color.

At equivalent color accuracy settings it's worse, but if you up the contrast setting it's better.

It's just a technology trade off. IPS have better view angles, and almost no color shift at off angles, and their color accuracy seems to be better. Plus they have better response times, and thus require less image processing to reduce ghosting (less input lag).

The main thing MVA/PVA has going for it are black levels and no shimmering effect over IPS.

I still love the picture on my LG L246WP 24"er

I know monitor gurus will balk, but I prefer its picture to my 3007WFP-HC. Mainly because it has such nice deep blacks which lends to the whole picture looking really nice. Hope it never dies, it's going on 3 years with many hours on it.

LG continued on with this model line, but went from PVA panels to TN.

I'd like to try out gaming with a 120hz monitor, the reason I won't is I just can't accept going back to a TN panel, unless it costs $200 or less for at least 23". TN is unpleasant to use after using a nice panel.

Great thing (or terrible, depends) about humans is we're susceptible to conditioning. Drop what you have and stick with a TN and you'll soon become accustomed to it. This is from personal experience. Wasn't my choice, but I've learned to live with it.
