Does ANYONE still make collect calls?

So I see these damn collect call commercials about 50 times an hour, but really can't imagine anyone still actually doing it. I mean I've never seen the reason why you would do it, and with cell phones nowdays there's even less reason.

Is there anyone here that still makes collect calls?

I have a few times when I had no change and needed to use a payphone. Haven't done it since I got my cell phone a couple years ago.

I think the last time I called collect was when I was 13 and at overnight basketball camp. I called home once or twice that week.

i used to use them from time to time on payphones to save 25 cents.

machine: "please state your name"
me: (speaking very quickly) "its jason i need a ride from school"
friend: declines the call cause they know the routine

Just dial down the middle - 1-800-ATT.

(This message has been brought to you by Carrottop and the numbers one, eight and zero)

My method is better than you ...

Speak very quickly "Call me at 1234567" .... there is always a number associate to the pay phone so ppl can dial back.
If they didn't hear ya, I'd try again, then they will call back. This method usually works just fine. and we can talk all we want :)

Heh, funny. :)

As I've gotten older, I am better able to afford to call my mother to say hello, and to let her know that I'm OK. When I was younger, I'd have to call her collect just to say hi. I am proud to say that now I can afford the Dolla-Fitty to say "Hi, Mom!!!"

:D<--Me<---is proud!

You're missing the point. The only reason these commercials exist is to give has-been actors and comedians a steady paycheck ;)

IIRC, Carrottop's act used to be a copy of Gallagher's act; complete w/the props and smashing the fruit and such.

I despise Carrot Top. Not only has he never been funny and continues to remain as such but one of his jokes made me cry when I was younger. I was at my grandparents house for New Year's Eve and we were all watching the crap that's on TV before the ball drops and he was doing stand up. He took out props and was making fun of stuff and trying to use random crap as musical instruments. Then he busts out a 'puffer' (it's an inhaler for asthma, but not one of the small ones). When I was younger I had bad asthma and this 'joke' went too far for me - I was maybe 7 or 8 and the asthma was real bad for me then - and I started to cry. Yeah, I hate that asshole.

A couple of times in my life I have found myself thousands of miles from home penniless. Don't ask, you probably wouldn't understand. I made collect calls to get money wired to me so I could get a meal and a ticket home. It was my money, I just didn't have access to it in a foreign land.

If it would make Alyssa Milano or Jaimie Pressly appear out of thin air, I would make collect calls.

I was also wondering about this..I think I've made one collect call in my life, I called my dad when I was about 14 at sleep away camp. My mom would have declined the call, hehe..

As a youth I would abuse the system by making crank calls to random numbers.
