Does anyone sell Slotkets anymore?

I finally have an opportunity rebuild my beloved multiprocessor box, but it is a dual Slot 1 P3 board.

Does anyone know where the devil I can get Slotkets that let you use FC-PGA chips in Slot 1?

I checked the usual suspects - Newegg, ZipZoomFly, and CompGeeks....no dice.

FS forums. I have two myself that I've never been able to sell. I'm sure there are others who still have them. I'm guessing you want them NIB?

Funny thing is that I bought my slotkets for the same reason, a dual p3 board. I had put p3-700 chips on them. IIRC, it was a Tyan Tiger 100.

You can find some thru Google & ebay - but I don't see how i could possile be cost effective. The performance that dual 1.4GHz P3 cpus (the best yo coul do) would barely rival a single 2.4GHz Celeron / Sempron 2500+ / XP2700 that all cost ~$100 including mobo and shipping. Acording to www.PriceWatch.com

You can get a barebone - Athlon XP3400 delivered for $150- and it's single CPU performance would benifit every OS & App.

NIB isn't a showstopper...long as they work!

Do you have them listed on FS/FT? I forget what board is in this...it's rebadged Tyan from a Gateway E5200.

I'm more interested in stability than performance. I was perfectly happy with 2x450MHz celerons. I only upgraded b/c that board died. I was perfectly happy with 2x1000MHz PIII until that board died.

I've got all the bits...just need the adapters.

Sometimes it's not about the power of the PC it's about the nostalga. Sometimes, I miss my Dual Pentium Pro 200 with 192MB ECC Buffered EDO DIMMs and all SCSI drives, with a FireGL 1500 video card with 32MB RAM on a DIMM and Soundblaster 16 ISA sound card.

Doesn't sound too stable, if these boards keep dying. :)

If I can find my old slotket, I'll gladly send it to you for the price of shipping only. I haven't used it in 4 years and have no way to test it, so no guarantees, of course.

thanks but no. I don't have room for anymore computers unless it can fit on a rack.

I have 2. But like nakedfrog, I have to find them and have no way of testing them. If you still want them, pm me and we'll work out a fair deal. One is a MSI and one is an ABIT.

Nakedfrog, what brand is yours. We may be able to match a pair for him. I think it's easier when the slotkets match.

A makeshift dual Slotket setup would be far less stable than any single cpu system. If you want stability you would be better off buying a old namebrand server or workstation off ebay with ECC ram and SCSI drives and all quilifed components.

If you are doing this for the gee-whiz factor of flushing your money down the toilet then I can see where your coming from, and have fun. I also have a box full of old worthless computer parts, and if I was one of those SlashDot linux nuts I would justify making a router out of it.

I'm not convinced. I read a number of reviews that claimed BP6 and VP6 boards were also "unstable" because they basically were dual slot 1 boards with PGA sockets bodged onto them. Yet aside from the well-known capacitor defect, I never once had stability issues with them.

What would the difference be here? It's not like i'm overclocking them. It's not like they are running on a bus faster than 100MHz. Unless the slotkets are crappy, I can't imagine why it would not be stable.

No, I'm doing it because I had dual-processor boxes for 6 years and it sucks going back to one - I want the SMP box back, especially if I can do it for under $50.

OK let me know if you dig them up. I agree that a matched pair would be better, but it would be cheaper to only pay shipping once, so if nakedfrog is out it's not a big deal.

Jalaram and NakedFrog, in the event you were digging in your closets, hold off for now. I found another 800MHz PIII in the storage room, so I will probably not need the slotkets. It would be nice to have 1000MHz, but the 800s are cheaper and easier :)

I appreciate your offers to help!
