Does anyone run their DSL line thru a surge protector?

I currently run my phone cable thru a surge protector, then to my dialup modem. I know that DSL signals are a lot more sensitive to outside factor than regular analog signals.

The surge protector isn't a cheapie. Actually, it's a top of the line Belkin Surgemaster Gold Plus. Will running it thru the surge protector screw with the signal? I'd hate to risk frying my modem/router/NIC and possibly my mobo due to a power spike or lightning strike...I'm paranoid about that stuff. Thanks.

the only way your surge protector would cause a problem with the dsl signal is if you had a wire running from the outlet to your phone jack. hopefully you haven't done this..

if there are problems with your dsl signal strength call your isp and see how far you are from your c/o. some radios or television antennas etc have been known to cause problems with 56k and lower modems, i don't know if this applies to dsl or cable (and i personally never believed it..), but it's always good to test all of your options.

I have DSL with that exact surge protector. I am running the DSL wire through the surge protector with no problems at all.

Rickr,

Gee, your response makes me very happy! I was really worried about this. I just refuse to hook up any piece of electronic equipment without a surge protector. I've had stuff fry in the past. The only thing in my house that isn't hooked to a surge protector is my alarm clock. If it fries...oh well, I get to sleep in! Thanks for the info.

I never even thought about that. I think it is a good idea to do that, and I will probably go out and buy a protector.

Thanx
