HTT should never be above 1Ghz, in my personal experience.

A succesfull overclocking on an A64 includes lowering the LDT multiplier to fit the HTT speed of 1Ghz max. When going above this speed, very eratical behaivior can happen. For example, my ATI crashed as soon as I loaded WinXP Pro, and had to use VPU recover if my HTT was above 1Ghz.

However, not all motherboards are created equal, and some will be able to do above 1.4Ghz HTT, but the general rule is "no more than 1Ghz". Else, everything is fine.

LDT X FSB = HTT

Yes you do need to do stability testing. You can normally boot to windows at much higher than your maximum stable overclock.

Use SuperPI and Prime95 small files to test CPU stability
Use memtest to test memory stability

All of these programs are available to download for free

Usually a pass of 3dMark 2005, Pc Mark 2004 and Sandra tests are enough stress on your computer, specially for testing the rest of the components.

Good luck and good fun.

Adequate voltage for Winchesters are 1.5 to 1.6v Max. Temperature is pretty much ok @ 60°C.

LOL!!!!

Also open up like 10 IE windows...If it doesn't crash your system is stable....just kiddin!!!

To the OP...

Did you mean....Should ppl run stability test...If you are asking does, then the answer is heck yes. Most here do it in some form or another. What degree is the variation. Some may say prime95 for 4 hours is enough other want 24 hours. Some say if it plays their intense games for hours on end and no BSOD for a week it is fine. Others (like me) pirme test for 24+ hours then run FH for a week solid, not to mention run multple paases in memtest and run encoding test....

You should definitely run it. Last time I pushed my HT too high, the system booted but it was totally spazzy (not enough correct math from the system to even render a web page).
