Does anyone run a computer in the open without a case?

I was thinking the barebone method, if you don't have to worry about kids or pets, is to have all components laid out on a table. As long as you take care to not short out the parts, it should run pretty well. It's probably not the safest thing around, but it can stay around room temperature in terms of cooling effect. You can just blow the dust out when necessary.

Anyone tried it?

Keep a fan blowing across it and your fine. Otherwise you get better cooling with the system in a well vented case. I know many people who have multiple systems out on a table with no case. They are constantly evaluating hardware and changing it out so its easier then having to open a case all the time. Or you could get one of these tech stations and set the system up in there. If nothing else that control kit at the top would come in handy.

I do it when I'm setting up and testing/configuring/tweaking/clocking things, but once I get it setup the way I want, I'll transfer it into a safer permanent home
