Does anyone recognize the .chk extention?

Does anyone know what program .chk files come from? A bunch of those files popped up in my hard drive and i have no clue what they are.

.CHK files on my system are lost fragments that are saved onto the disk by some disk scanning program like MS's ScanDisk or Norton's Disk Doctor. If they are in your ROOT (C:\) directory, that is most likely the case. You can view the files to see if they contain any data you may have lost during a recent system crash, otherwise, you can delete them if you want. i usually delete mine.

I think these are "lost" files found by scandisk or chkdisk. These are programs that run when your computer locks up and then you have to restart it without being able to shut it down properly. The easiest way to get rid of them is to run "Disk Cleanup" in "Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools".

Those files are lost file fragment that were saved to your hard disk while running Scandisk. I usually just throw them away as it is almost futile to find out the original filename and even then its just a fragment of the original file anyways.
