Does anyone recognise this connector? (USB? DisplayPort?)

One side is standard USB A-Type and the other is this (two different angles):

I'm not sure what device it came with, it's been in my cupboard a while.

There is a USB 3.0 SS logo on it and it looks very similar to 'USB 3.0 B-Type' but the middle of the connector doesn't seem to match. For example, this is an example of a standard 'USB 3.0 B-Type':

On the length of the cable is:

Amphenol
F
RJ
AWM
2725
30V
80°C
VW-1
E326508

the middle of the connector doesn't seem to match.
As far as I can see in your photo, there aren't any electrical contacts in that "middle" section, those little squares are just blank "cutouts". But it's just a spacer, so other than having the correct width and height (depth?) at the highest point on its surface, there's no reason for it to "match" the spacer on any other USB Type B connector. I suppose it's possible that the USB port on whatever device it came with could having matching raised areas to prevent fulling plugging in a cable without those little holes, but (a) that would be really weird, and (b) you presumably would have realized something was wrong when you tried to use the device with a "standard" USB 3.0 cable and it wouldn't fit properly.😉
