And yes, slotted tracks are the way to go still. There was only a couple slotless sets made back in the 80s/90s, and they were crap.
Lots of die hards(I'm not there yet), route their own track on large boards and make their own track exactly how they want. The problem with that is you can never change the layout again, but they're much more customizable.
The brand that I use, Scalextric, is coming out with new Digital track that allows you to change lanes on command and run up to 6 cars in each lane. So 12 cars on track, with cross-overs every 5 feet or so, would make a pretty fun racing experience. The only problem is having faster cars crushing you from behind when racing in the same groove. I'm still gonna upgrade to it though. 🙂

That actually sounds cool.

Another option is to get some MiniZ cars. They're radio controlled. Build your own track in the basement.

That's true, but those are wayyy too slow. 😉 hehe

Not that slow right? The local hobby shop here have real racers with them. Supposed to be lots of mods for them too.

For MiniZ cars? I don't know anythign about them, I'm just assuming you're talking about those little $5 R/C cars you can get at 7-11 and whatnot. I'm probably way off though. 🙂 edit-Oops, I just googled them, they sound fast and look pretty cool too. Might have to look into those as well. 🙂
These slot cars can totally be hopped up. They have drag races with 1/24 scale cars and can almost hit 100 real mph with hair dryer motors and stuff. We have a track here in town, a real pro setup 300 some feet. The track record is just over 2 SECONDS🙂Q), but those I don't like because they don't look like authentic cars like mine, they're just plastic wings that produce more downforce as the car goes faster. It doesn't even look like a car, but they're dang fun to watch.

Ya, just looked it up on google, sorry about that. Those look sweet! I might have to get one to try out. 🙂 Although I'd probably lose control of those and hammer them into the wall every time. haha
