Does anyone play PC games on their tv?

Big screen HDTV. If so, how sweet is it? I imagine it's fucking awesome having a good looking maxed out pc game on a big HDTV.

Depends on how close you are, display size, and display quality.

A game on a 1080p 50" looks worse to me than on a 24"... Read: pixel density.

And yes, a lot of people do it. I don't do it because I don't see the reason to buy a 50" 1080p TV when I am living in a sub 200sqft studio apartment.

You would be wrong to think its awesome. TVs, even ones that advertise for PC inputs, are not all that great. Its mostly a sizing/distance issues that crop up. I'm sure a few tvs are ok for certain games.

Lots of games don't scale well on TVs, 1900x1080 on a 22inch monitor looks great..but when you put it on 40+inch does not looks great.

But you simply don't buy a TV just for PC use.

Hahaha... at above comments. :p

I have a 42" hitachi ultravision 1080p on my desk in my apartment and it is awesome for most games with the exception of fast fps style games were sometimes you get noticeable ghosting. 80-90% of the time though its awesome.

I have my old monitor, a dell 24" LCD, hooked up as 2ndary and the difference in game immersion is incredible.

My buddy does this but he only has two games that he will play on his TV. All the others are played on his PC. Like others above said most games don't look good on TVs. Not as good as on a PC anyway.

Shouldnt the distance you sit from a large tv negate the differences in pixel density? as in, you surely dont sit the same distance from your TV as you do your monitor, right?

Like I said... depends on where you sit... Most people who have 50" TVs and hook it up to the computer sit damn close.

I have a 28" LCD and tried using my 40" 1080p LCD for gaming. Not a fan. The pixel density sucked compared to my 28" and I had to sit further back to see everything.

I'll never game on a pc monitor again, I sit about 6-8" from my 40" Samsung and the level of immersion is off the charts. Absolutely love it to death.

I talked my friend into mounting his 32" tv to the wall behind his computer desk and using that instead of his 22" monitor, he did and his reaction was the exact same - never going back.

It depends on the games you play and how you prefer to play them. Stereoscopic 3D and more panoramic views in general look much better the larger the screen is. That's especially great for flying or racing or RTS games where the big picture is what you focus on. However, the larger the screen the more you have to move your eyes around to see the details making a smaller screen more attractive for things like fast paced action like shooters where quickly spotting the little things and aiming well matter more.

I get more immersed in my 22" that I sit about 1.5-2 feet from, than my 42" that I sit 6' from.

I consolized my PC. customized an interface, used a LianLi 350 SFF case, slapped in a quad core and 580gtx, a 360 gaming pad and it works fantastic as such. Better than a console actually except i can't turn it on from the wireless gamepad and the interface doesnt work with it are the only real 2 major downfalls.

i'd love to have something like the Sony XMB for my PC.

HDMI to DVI adapter...i have one, their cheap. works great, looks great. Also some video cards have HDMI out, but either way it looks the same, just no audio for the DVI. i use optical but getting one with HDMI out would be more ideal.

I have a DVI -> HDMI cable, and it carries audio. I'm not sure if it's because of Win7 or my gtx460

I did for a while when my monitor broke, and I have my PS3 hooked up to it - 65" LCD.

It's great for gaming.

Pixelation bothers me, and I haven't had an issue with it.

I was going to have a 2nd PC for the tv, but meth head burglars have slowed that.

I do it on 1 47" in the living room and a 42" in the bedroom.
All the nonsense about blurring, ghosting, "pixel size", response time and all that is crap.
Maybe if I measured it, but it plays the same to me as when I used a smaller monitor.
I haven't sat at a computer desk for a few years and I don't miss it.

Biggest issue I've seen is the place for the keyboard/mouse with a living room tv.

It's hard to find a good small desk that doesn't wiggle gaming.

Indeed. 58" 3d plasma. Looks a lot better than my 30" 25x16 ips for any dark game.

Once I got into HDTV gaming with my PC I was never able to go back to sitting at a desk and playing on a small PC monitor.

Size matters both in screen size and sound. Having a home theatre sound setup engulfed around a large screen cant be reproduced if your 2-3 feet away from a computer monitor.

1080P for gaming on a good quality HDTV looks amazing if you get the settings/screen size/seating distance right.

My setup is as much about the sound as the TV, but both are giant upgrades from computer monitors/speakers IME. This is coming from Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1s and 24" Asus gaming 1080P LCD.

If your interested in doing it you should just jump in.

That's the biggest drawback. If the game doesnt support a controller, preferably 360, then it is uncomfortable with KB+M. Fortunately a lot of games these days are supporting gamepads.

Amonst the drawbacks of controller vs kb+m is a very big positive, analog movement available on controllers helps the feel tremendously IME. Simply moving the analog stick more or less to move through a game world at a slow/brisk/running pace is something sorely missed on kb+m.

Love it, especially with a wireless X360 controller. It's a superior in term of visual and audio experience. Only drawback is you'll need a portable notebook stand or something for games that need kb+/m

Yea the only thing that sucks is if your keyboard/mouse/controller aren't wireless. I only have a wireless 360 controller not keyboard but I played Batman: AA on my 42" tv and it was awesome.

Is it really any different than playing a 360 on your HDTV? The 360 is basically just a specialized PC.

My biggest issue has been trying to find a comfortable layout for keyboard and mouse from my couch. 1080p is not the issue. Looks fine. Maybe a tad more washed out on my LCDTV than my 24" TFT Dell LCD Monitor, but that was dealt with via settings.

they even make mice that function similar to the Wii controller. I had one, called a Gyro something, i tried it out on FPS games years ago, takes some getting used to and its hard to just do a 180 and move that direction cause then your wrist is bent...dunno how they do it for the Wii on FPS games.

They need to make a gamepad similar to the old MS sidewinder i think it was?...where half the gamepad was a ball swivel with a handle so to speak to control mouse...then just add a mini KB like those for the PS3....eitehr way i'm sure something could be done that would satisfy KB/Mice gamers yet still fit in your hands.

maybe a wireless Nostromo/g13 gamepad or a well thought out "nintendo gloves" type system that could be accurate.
