does anyone owns a pug?

My sister owns a pug and she generally does not make much noise. Except when you're playing with her & running around then she'll bark while chasing you like most other dogs would. Overall they're great dogs but a few are real attention whores.

Our pug, Harley, is almost 11 months. She doesn't bark a lot (only when someone comes to the door) but she does snore when she sleeps. Overall, she's a great dog with an affectionate personality. She generally follows us around but doesn't jump on us. Right now she's asleep under my desk.

When they do bark, it's pretty muffled, but they snore VERY loudly. Not loud at all. Pugs are awesome dogs. Very good companions.

they don't bark very much but they make noise when they breathe because their air passages are constricted from being bred to look like that. they also snort and make "snarf" and "mnam mnam" sort of noise all the time. basically they make a constant stream of low-level background noise. they also need lots of attention and can be "willful" (meaning hard to train if you don't know what you're doing). you also have to clean the folds in their skin or they can get infected, and their eyeballs can fall out (i'm not kidding).

that said, they are SOOOOO CUTE! 😉 maybe the cutest dog around.

my friend has one and her eyeballs have "only" fallen out twice in a few years. if you can handle the idea of a dog who's eye could pop out at any moment, pugs are great dogs. but i'm not sure i could handle that.

omg pugs eyeballs can fall out? LOL

We used to have a pug, it died of a stroke or something after we gave him away. Our backyard was too big for him, he'd dissapear into our bushes all day long and come out smelling like sh!t

We are looking into buying a pug and in our research we have never come across anything remotely resembling the problem of "eyes falling out". Not to say they aren't prone to a lot of eye problems - dry eyes, eye infections, scratches, cataracts, Corneal Ulcers, ect.

I'm going to assume the poster who mentioned it was joking.

Haha

We have a pug, and named him Guapo. He doesn't really bark that much, unless you leave him alone for awhile and usually its just a whine because, like others said, they need a lot of attention. They are real great companions though, and very friendly. But yes, they do snore LOUD so its hard to have him in the room sleeping when we watch movies, lol.

But yeah, great dogs.

Might have a problem called Cherry-eye where an eyelid gets filled with blood and forms a pocket, requires surgery too, very common in pugs.

like this

We own a bug/beagle mix. Cutest thing ever...such a nice breed mix. She had this in both eyes and had surgery both times, but now she will never get it again! 🙂

This is her, with my GF's family's new black lab

I was thinking about getting a pug a few months ago, but I decided against it. I work a lot and I don't think I'm home enough. It wouldn't be fair for the dog.

As people have mentioned, the breed needs a LOT of attention and will tear your stuff up if you're gone too long. I've seen lots of suggestions that people get two to keep one another company.

The dog has eye problems. I hear a lot about scratched eyes and poor genetics. They were bred for those big eyes and flat face, and it doesn't make a lot of sense for a dog not to have a snout.

I thought they also had some other common problem... hips or ears? I forget. Too many dogs researched.

I also read that they're completely useless and untrainable. They're lap dogs. Any useful stuff their ancestors could do has been bred out of them... although I'd hope that any dog is trainable to some degree.

They are really really cute, though, and they seem to have great personalities.

Which brings up the last point... my girlfriend made fun of me for wanting such a cute dog.
