Does anyone own the NEC LCD2080UX+ or the Dell 2001FP?

Im more intrested in the LCD2080UX+ but i hear both the montiors use the same LG Phillips LM201U04 panel. For owners of either how well do they perform in games? I have a Viewsonic VP171B (First model) which has a contrast ratio of 500:1 and 16ms response time, im happy with its performance but some areas in games are too dark for my liking. How will this compare to the lower 400:1 contrast ratio? Will i notice a difference? As much information and personal experience with either product as possible will be a great help.

Yup both monitors contain the LM201U04 panel.

The S-IPS monitors (LCD2080UX+ and 2001FP) should reproduce color a lot better in dark areas than your TN VP171B. The contrast should be the same if not better on the S-IPS than on the TN as well so you shouldn't worry about that. Response time I'm not sure about. I do know many people like the 2001FP while I've heard nothing of the LCD2080UX+. I haven't owned any of these monitors though.

I own the 2001FP, but recently upgraded to a 2405FPW. Played a ton of different games on the 2001FP, and they all looked really good.

Did you have any issues with ghosting? Was some of the colours too bright, ie looked too green, red ect?

2001FP owner here and I absolutely love it for gaming as well as general use. I find that it scales well and doesn't produce any noticeable ghosting in the games that I play (current game du jour: BF2). The only issue that I've come across is not being able to run games in the panels native res (1600x1200) with my 6800GT. With that said, I find that it scales very well as long as you keep the ratio (1600x1200 :: 4:3) the same.

I can't answer whether or not the contrast ratio difference will be any different, but I find the 2001FP to satisfy my tastes. Then again, I don't watch movies on mine.

Hope that helps.

My biggest gripe with the 2001fp is its very poor black levels when playing dark games or when watching dark scenes in movies,I had a CRT sitting next to it as a refrence (dual monitor) and the weak black levels were painfully obvious on the LCD.

I would look for a newer LCD with a higher contrast ratio but I guess it depends on how picky you are about such things.

to the topic question, "Does anyone own the NEC LCD2080UX+ or the Dell 2001FP?", answer....I don't.

Edit: But I hear that that Dell does well 😉

Thanks for the input. Im either going to get the LCD2080UX+ or wait out for the viewsonic VP2030B, Ive heard really good things about the 2080UX+ however.

BTW how bad are the blacks in darker games? Surely the panel must be better than my current VP171B? (which i do like very much)

Not sure how the blacks look on the NEC but the Dell's aren't very deep at all atleast they weren't on mine.

Not good at all from my experiance .. I tried adjusting the monitor & videocard settings but couldnt get it anywhere near the black levels of my CRT, I took these pics to show the differance but note these are digicam shots and not 100% accurate, I would say the LCD looks a bit worse in the shot than in person but you can get a general idea.

Link to pics.

Thats not as bad as i thought it would be, but its still pretty poor. I have heard the NEC has decent'ish black levels. I'll have to see.
