Does anyone own a Sharp LCD TV

I bought a Sharp LC-37DB5U last December and it's shutting off randomly. Today it went back to Best Buy to be fixed. Of course, while we're there and the Geek Squad guy has it plugged in, it won't do it. Last night, within three minutes of turning it on, it started up.

I don't suspect power problems because it was on its own strip last night. I suppose it is always a possibility the apartment is built cheaply, but it's fairly new.

Has anyone else had problems with theirs? It's a great TV with a gorgeous picture and black blacks.

I have an older 30" Sharp, but I've never seen any problems with it. I just wish it didn't make our crappy cable signal look even crappier! 🙂

I bought the 32" Sharp from Costco. HDTV looks real sharp, but SD looks crappy. Glad I got digital cable to make the SD just a big better looking. Thinking about getting some calibration DVD to fine tune the color.

I got it connected to a power strip w/ a crap load of other equipment, including my computer and the monitor.

You could always buy a power conditioner from a place with a liberal return policy and return it if it does not do the trick.

Is that the one on sale for $999?

I thought about the power conditioner. I do have access to a UPS which should smooth out the power. Eh, we'll see what Best Buy can do for me. I'm glad the guy took my word for it. It was impressive given what I've heard about Best Buy.

Hmm, some close friends have had three 42" Aquos displays in the basement, unopened for over a year. I'm not sure what they are waiting on. They have a 32" tube in the living room cabinet and are never home to watch that.

Maybe it's overheating? Where are you keeping it? Years ago I had a stereo / CD player that would do the same thing - work fine for a while, then just shut off. Had BB pick it apart a couple times, and they finally just decided that the thing was overheating.

In the warranty it said to take it back to the place of purchase first.

As to the overheating, I don't believe so. It shouldn't even be warm in the first few minutes of it being on.

BestBuy shouldn't have anything to do with it after the 30 day period unless they are an authorized repair center.

Man I hate how these companies get out of their own warranties by making you take it back to the place of purchase. What if you moved to a state where there are no BestBuy's? What is the point of having the warranty from the MFR if they don't honor it?

They usually are looking for a central point of RMA's. This can reduce the number of staff needed to receive returns.
In turn, the retail store is compensated for the return.
