Does anyone meditate?

I would like to learn to meditate to lessen the noise that thoughts create in my mind. This technique has been suggested to me: In your mind, recite these syllables: "Ooom" on the in breath, "Aaah" while holding the breath briefly, and "Hoong" when releasing the breathe.

Does anyone here mediate and if so, what technique do you use? I am trying, I cannot do it for more than a few seconds at a time because I grow impatient or bored and my thoughts take over.

I thought it said something else, my bad.

Naaa, i dont meditate... i sit there in silence with my cats sometimes to relax, but i dunno if thats considered meditating...

This is the great difficulty which lies in meditation for everyone, so do not be discouraged. In the beginning, I suggest meditating for small spurts like 5 minutes each throughout the day. As you increase your frequency, the duration should increase as well because you over time you begin to quiet your mind. As you progress, extend each mediation period to 7,8,10, etc. minutes.

Another technique is counting while you breath. One...inhale....two...exhale...etc., up to 10 and repeat. This is the technique I use and I believe it works for me. And thanks for bringing up the topic since I've neglected my meditation 🙂

Yeah, I meditate.

The whole "Oooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmm" thing was actually a sexual ritualistic meditative yoga practice. You don't have to do that.

Just breathe in, breathe out. Concentrate.

Normally people don't meditate to "clear" their minds, but rather, to focus it. You don't just meditate, you meditate *on* something.

Nah, that's just called weird 😉 Actually, I go sit on the patio and pet my cats for a while sometimes too. But I don't meditate, no.

Xirtam - Om, is not a sexual yoga practice. Hindus believe it is the sound of the Universe. You are talking nonsense!

to meditate, i suggest you go somewhere that is naturally quiet, not just a room but maybe a tree, sit in the shade

concentrate on silencing the noise in your head, and when you are able to do that, concentrate on COMPLETELY relaxing your body, you should be laying down for this.

it's not as simple as just laying down however, you must feel ALL energy leaving, such as you are dead weight. this completely relaxes the muscles, and works good for me.
