Seeker - some of those are burst value (cache to cache) numers few if any 7200 RPM drives run a continuous transfer rate of over 70. When Maxtor first started labeling their drives ATA133 there was no official standard higher than ATA100 and no Maxtor could do 133 even burst rate. Very recently an official ATA133 standard has been accepted.

Trigger - reread my last post. If you don't know the diff between 40 and 80 wire cables, then what you messing around with your hardware for in the first place...

I Just ran another series of tests with HD Tach to see if I could understand what you said. Yes, HD Tach is testing the burst rates of the drives, along with 3 other phases of tests. Looking only at the peak value of each type, The Ultra 16 read about 67MBs, whereas the SATAs and the WDC peaked at 60MBs. I still have no idea of how HD Tach derived the values that it charted at the end of each test, but the Ultra 16 still comes out the winner.
