I've been using HT in windows for months now and it was recently brought to my attention by thugsrock that Win2k doesnt officially support Hyper-Threading technology.

This has leads some people to believe that HT doesnt work at all, but that most certainly is not the case.

TMPGenc re-encoding a chapelle show episode to NTSC Film, default settings.

HT enabled: 5:52
HT disabled: 6:57

HT enabled 2.6C @ default

HT disabled via bios 2.6C @ default

Float 19093

No. It's definitely a software problem. It is not in MS's interest to support older OS. XP is the new version, 2K is the old version. Why spend money adding new features to the older version? It would be an investment that made no return.

Intel can do nothing to add support to 2K.

It is entirely a software issue. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with how Win2k handles idle processors. Something about the OS sending nops instead of wait.

In case it wasn't clear, Intel has nothing do with why Win2k does not support HyperThreading.
