Somebody very nervous, sweating, looking like a deer in the headlights. For some reason I'm picturing early Rodney Dangerfield?

He has a great deer in the headlights stare

You are correct sir.

**EDIT**
I am pretty sure Andy Kaufman did this, and he had curly hair, but maybe it was Stephen Wright

Larry David did something like that. It may have been him. I dont know if he ever did the Ed Sullivan show. He would come out and look over the crowd for a minute, then say "Nevermind" and walk off stage.

Well, if that WAS him, then who was that one guy who would do that incredibly dry, deadpan crap who just sounded bored out of his mind and tired as hell every time he did a show? He had a few funny bits, but I just remember him jumping from topic to topic, all the while acting tired and so damn deadpan...

steven wright?

Rodney wouldn't just stand there, he throws jokes like a machinegun. Lots of little bad jokes, until the one good joke hits you.
That's now. Ed Sullivan was like 40 years ago, Rodney tried quite a few different styles during the process where he was perfecting his act. He's awesome.

He's a legend.

Too bad he's no longer a living legend though :(

steven wright has curly hair (but bald on top) and did that to some level (not sure it was several minutes, but long enough to make people uncomfortable)
