I remove mine and spray them with aluminum paint. Works for me.

Some of the sellers of fancy aluminum cases like Coolermaster, Silverstone and Lian Li sell dress plates that fit most optical drives. I've also seen generic ones out there for less.

Or as corky mentioned, you can paint the plastic parts (they're pretty easy to remove from the drives for painting). Testor's model paint comes in lots of shades of silver.

That's what I have used Zep - and sometimes bright colors are fun. :)

For Samsung retail DVD writers: Right there in the box (silver and black). OEM models come in one of three colors.

AOpen also sells a "chameleon" drive that comes with the three colors of face plate, but if you paint them yourself then they will all be the same shade. And I think the Egg sells an Alps floppy drive in silver.
