Does anyone know where I can buy a 6800ultra?

Hi , my cousin is asking my if I knew where to get a 6800ultra. I searched around and can't seem to find any place that might be selling the 6800ultra. Does anyone know where I can get one? Thanks

Two Words...

Paper Launch.

I guess I should tell my cousin to return his 9800xt to fry's electronics. He bought it 21 days ago for $499.99+tax and wait for a while (can't play games on a GF4 MX420). Bummer....

neither the x800 nor the 6800 are really "available".

Sure, you can get an x800 (only Pro), but you WILL pay a PREmium.

Both r420 AND nv40 will be available - in quantities - at the beginning of next month

Specifically, the few retailers on PW that are advertising 6800 PREorders are saying they will ship NEXT THURSDAY.

Patience. 😉

BTW, Geforce Ultra Extreme won't air-cool at 450 MHz
All indications are that the Geforce 6800 Ultra Extreme will ship before ATI's still imaginary, nebulous, and right now for the press only X800XT Platinum. We know that "extreme" is not part of the name but Nvidia will have to use something to distinguish this super extremely expensive cards from its normal just extremely expensive ultra cards.

The X800XT Platinum won't arrive before the end of June, we've been told more then once, let's hope Nvidia will have some ultras for you by then.
😛

$499?

Isn't the MSRP $399?

:Q

Right now the PW price is ~$430 for the (12 pipe) x800pro . . . the really 'nice' card - the 16-pipe x800xt PE (available sometime by July) will be ~$500.

Ati or nVidia - like it or not - you gotta wait . . .

EDIT: i misread it - it's a 9800XT . . . YEAH, tAKE IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😛

(if you can)

You can get a 9800Pro-256MB for ~$280 and simply flash the BIOS into a 9800xt. 😉
(he'd save $120 for the 'same thing' or get a much better x800 for the 'same price')

I used to play every new game on my old GeForce 2 MX with no problem before I upgraded to play Prince of Persia Sands of Time. Just don't expect to run at 1024x768 with 4x AA and 2x AF 😛.

I've never been able to personally see the speed of the x800 Pro. My friend bought one for the pc that I assembled the other day, but complications in the building left us unable to play any games on it while I was there 🙁. Overall, though, I was not impressed with the cards actual build ... for a higher-end card, I'd expect ramsinks or the heatsink to cover the ram chips. But, there was no heatsink covering the ram.

I think they wanted to see what ATI brought to the table... now they're probably saying "hmmm, looks like we need to get this up to 450/1200 before it ships"

It's GDDR3 memory -- it runs MUCH cooler than standard DDR, because internally the chips run at half the rated speed (ie, if it's '600Mhz' memory, internally it's essentially dual-channel DDR300). It doesn't need ramsinks, at least not at their stock speeds.

Exactly . . . 😉

. . . exactly the same thing ATI is doing with the x800xt-PE

And nVidia WON'T be able to get 450 w/o h20 cooling (see my 2nd-last post) 😛

Hmmmm... what happened the last time heat was a huge problem? Fans on heatsinks... the time before that... heatsinks on the chips... so what's the next logical step? Water cooling isn't for amateurs... however, many amateurs want this hardware. I can't really think of anything else though other than cooling zones to remove heat as fast as possible and get fresh air to the hot componants as fast as possible. The FX5800 Ultra went through a small revision though and out came the FX5900 which doesn't have any heat problems as far as I'm concerned... I even have mine overclocked and it doesn't get too hot =)
