Hello eveyone,

Does anyone know where AOL (5 and later for WINME) store the buddy list data files (file extension, directories etc.)? After installing a burning software bundle included in USB HP portable CD burner, my nephew buddy list is gone. I just want to make sure that the files is still there before looking somewhere else. It is unlikely that new software will erase or replace some datafiles, isn't it? Any suggestion and other insight thought is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

go to My Aim => Save Buddy List. I don't think your list is on your computer, but saved dynamically on an aol server somewhere. This conclusion comes from the fact that when you update a list on one computer, sign off, and then log back on to another, your list is updated from the original computer w/o you needing to change it again or update some file. If the list is missing, then aol has lost it and he will need to add them over again. To prevent this from happening, do the procedure stated above periodically and you will have a backed up list.

If you're using one of the newest versions of AIM (I know 4.7 has it, not sure about before then), there is a buddylist backup file stored in C:\Windows\aim95\screenname it's a txt file, so I'm not sure if you can just load it into AIM or you would have to re-enter all of them. Hope this helps.
