I have seen an interesting setup with a PhenomII 940 for a very reasonable price. The only thing is that the mobo (Asrock AliveXfire-eSata2) is not amd+ it only supports it & has the following issue:

downgrades from HT3.0 (5200 MT/s) to HT1.0 (2000 MT/s),

Does anybody know how this might affect the performance considering I will be running on vista 64 premium using Photoshop cs4 & large file stitchig panos & hdri???

The good thing is that the board supports up to 16 gb of ram, so is it better to go to an 8gb max amd+ mobo?

???????

He is talking about the Southbridge: ATI? SB600 chipset that is on this motherboard. I'm guessing he likes it? Kind of left hanging with his response.

SB600= FAIL, you want the 750. I think he ment you shold pass on the SB600 it is outdatded by quite a bit now, both the 700 710 and 750 are better.

Particularly if you intend to use over 4GB with 64-bit OS. SB600 either has issues with or doesn't support 64-bit DMA, reportedly.

Yeah, sorry for not being more clear. "Pass" can be ambiguous.

On the AMD side, look for SB700 at a minimum.
