And I do mean in an instant before my eyes go from dilate to pinpoint.
My eyes are so sensitive to light that they dilate from the time it takes the flash to blink once to get out red eye to the time it takes for the flash to take the actuall picture, the result is red eye on everything that we take, I have tried many different cams from the cheapest to the most expensive. Anyway thats not what bothers me, I need them for driving, there is a hill that in the morning as I come over it I am instantly blinded from the sun. I need something that reponds to light fast enough.
My daughter also has my eyes-the blue so deep that it is hypnotic like her dad's. So she will need some also even though her vision is near perfect.
If I knew how to post an image I would just to show what it looks like WITH red eye fix on.

Transitions lenses take time to change so they probably won't do for you.

I've tried dozens of sunglasses and the best I've found for my sensitive eyes are Revo Headway. They have a lens that is not too dark and not too bright so you can wear them almost all the time. Even as it gets darker in the evening I can still see with them, yet they work great for blocking out the sun midday as well. I don't know how they do it, maybe it's just the perfect shade for me, maybe it's the polarization of the lenses. Revo Headways have 2 lens options grey and blue. I have the blue lenses. Oakley also has some great lenses. Revo and Oakley are pretty much the same company.

Ask the salesperson if you can try them out for a few days and see if they work for you and what their return policy is. I got mine at sunglass hut. Yes they are expensive ~$200. But they saved my eyes countless times and you only get 1 pair of eyes, so to me they are worth every penny.

Sunglasses won't help much for photographs though. For that I just use photoshop. Well actually I use the Gimp, but you get the idea.

You're welcome. Let us know how it goes. Don't be afraid to try lots of different brands and stores until you find the right pair. Your eyes (as well as your daughter's) are very important and deserve protection from UV. You don't want to (or have her) have to go through cataract surgery. Ask me how I know. Ask any Opthamologist if you should wear sunglasses. I'll bet not one will say no. They will also likely say it doesn't matter which sunglasses you use, as long as you use something to protect your eyes. Which sunglasses you choose is purely for comfort.

As someone who's been wearing photograys for decades I may be able to help.

First, none of the changing lenses change automatically. It takes a minute or so.

My experience is that real glass photograys work better than plastic. Optometrists really try to push plastic these days over glass, but glass photograys change faster and IME get darker than plastic ones.

Of course, they cost more and they limit your choice of frames.

If you need instant dark, your only real solutions are:

1. Put the glasses outside for a minute before you go outside. The light will change them for you.

2. Use something like this, either instead of or in addition to photograys. But note that while they are clipped on, the real lenses will be shaded and won't change.

3. Get a pair of prescription sunglasses.

Hope this helps.

The only problem with everyones suggestions so far is transition lenses are worthless for driving. Auto windshields block UV which is the trigger for transitions to darken.

Your best solution is as CharlesKozierok suggested-prescription sunglasses.

You could always go with some old school Dwayne Wayne glasses from the early 90's.

The Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive Sunglasses have been especially designed to help people develop a relaxed attitude to danger. They work, by turning completely dark at the first sign of danger, thus preventing you from seeing anything that might alarm you.

I would like a pair of these that turn dark as soon as an attractive woman crosses my path.
