Does anyone know much on transistor layout

my guess is the bottom is the base, the other 2 are emitter and collector, but to find out which I'd use a diode check on the ole multimeter.

Agreed. Just look for the .7V drop.

depends if it's bipolar or MOS, bipolar is emitter/ base /collector, and MOS is source/ gate /drain
 
isnt the bottom one the gate - with the Drain and source to the left and right ( cant tell which, i dont think it matters for this case anyway) all you need to the width and length right?
