My physics teacher told us he'd give us extra credit if we could find out who did this following experiment.
Scientists fired "projectiles" (we don't know what) into paraffin. Sometimes, a Hydrogen atom would come out, and they measured it's velocity. Other times, I think it was a Nitrogen atom, would come out, and they would also measure it's velocity.
The things he told us about this experiment are:
It was done in the 1930s (He thinks 1932).
The ratio of velocities of the 2 atoms was 7.5.
They derived an equation out of this experiment that is: V2' = ((2m1)/(m1+m2))V1
This is all of the info I have. I need to find out WHO performed this experiment. I know this is one of the worst places I could ask, but I figure it couldn't hurt.
