1080i seems to not be a good resolution
does anyone know if they are going to upgrade to 1080p anytime in the future?

1080i and 1080p are the same resolution. The only difference is in the method of delivery.

I did not think there was enough bandwidth to broadcast 1080p. I may be wrong though, anyone?

There has to be channels broadcasting in 1080p first. And since many just made the upgrade to 720p/1080i, i wouldn't expect them to make the investment to upgrade to 1080p anytime soon.

What seems to be wrong with 1080i?

one day i hope this will become common knowledge:

a TV with a proper deinterlacer will take a 1080i signal and display a 1080p picture

Interlacing. 1080p 30fps would be better EXCEPT for HD CRTS, which virtually no one has.

It's not perfect.. With motion, you can notice the artifacts created by meshing together two frames from two different points in time.

Not worth it for them, since you would only see a benefit if the content were in 1080p. The only content that could conceivably be 1080p would be pay per view, since TV channels are 1080i or 720p.

I know what the difference is, I'm wondering what the OP thinks is wrong with it.
I happen to have an HD CRT projection TV.

directv doesn't even offer 1920x1080 I hope they aren't going to try and pump a progressive feed out. The image quality would have to get even worse and more compressed than it already is.
