Does anyone know if Comcast will allow you to use your own HDTV/DVR box on thier system?

I just bought an HDTV and want to switch from my standard Comcast digital cable to HD, but I would like to stop paying them the rental fee for thier DVR/Cable box. Will they let you use your own box on thier system?

Having worked for a CTV company before the answer is no

Longer answer is
First would be good luck finding a box for some amount that wasn't crazy
second without it registered in there systems it won't get the channels

We had people calling in often to ask the same question

The biggest problem with it was that since the serial number had to be entered into the system for it to work if you ever canceled the system
would think that the box was ours and you would be charged accordingly

As long as you kept receipts you could fight it
But at the time the boxes were also 2k+ if you could find one (was a few years ago not sure if they have come down in price)

Probably the best thing to do would be to call them and ask
10 a month isn't that bad 🙂
