I have had this unit for a while and I need more room. Only 2x 3tb drives on the compatible list. both are seagate barracuda st3000dm001 firmware cc4h or cc43. I wondered if anyone had used a different 3tb or a 4tb in the unit.

right now I have 2 samsung series 830ssds 512gb and 4 seagate st2000DM003 2tb hdds; the samsungs work fine and are not on the list. I don't mind getting 2 seagate st300DM001 drives. 3tb each and swap them with 2 of the 2tb seagates.

I just wondered if anyone had been able to get a 4tb to work and other 3tb drives that work.
below was pulled from promise website.:

In RAID storage system, we recommend user to use enterprise level hard drive, which has much better command timeout control and more reliable to vibration for critical application.
Some listed devices may go EOL. AVL listing does not imply market availability.

have you contacted the manufacture ? not everyone has a pegasus raid storage... thats the problem

I have the hitachi 4tb drives and they work with my hp p410 raid controller after flashing the firmware, sitting on 4x4tb raid 5.

I use my machine with a mac mini 2012 as my ht storage hub.

it is filling with movies/tv shows.

I have 4x 2tb hdds in it and 2x 512gb ssds.

I am pulling 2 of the 2tb hdds and putting in the 2 3tb hdds.

I will gain 2tb. It will buy me about 6 months time to decide what to do next.

The 4tb hitachi drive arrived today it appears to work in the pegasus r6.

I will do a followup later in the week. I copied 3tb to it .

It can push 165mb for the first 1tb of copy. seems nice good warranty.

I was surfing the web and I found this thread. I hope you don't mind if I join it after so long.

I wish to thank you because you kept the topic updated. I was building a FreeNAS using an old computer and I ordered 3 Western Digital RED hard disks. Owing a Promise Pegasus R4 I think I'll put the disks in there instead and gain 6 TB of storage with RAID 5 configuration. I'll use the Hitachi hard drives for my FreeNAS.

So I'll have the following config on the Promise Pegasus:

Disk array #1 = 3TB Western Digital RED hard drive
Disk array #2 = 3TB Western Digital RED hard drive
Disk array #3 = 3TB Western Digital RED hard drive
Disk array #4 = EMPTY

6TB of available space with RAID 5 configuration, if I am correct.

In the future I'll be able to add another 3TB hard disk to the free disk array and increase my space without losing any data, so I'll have 9TB of available space, right? I need the Promise Pegasus utility software to set this, right? That seems the case of migration.

I tested some Synology NAS and they are great because you can swap the disks and gain bigger storage without losing any data. With the Promise Pegasus DAS I have to save the data to other drives then copy them again.

On the compatibility list by Promise, Western Digital RED disks are not listed. Did you have any issue during this time? Are there any news? I have to ask you because a lot of time is passed since your last post.

Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate it.
