Does anyone know how to wipe a Blackberry 7280?

It was from Cingular...I'm trying to wipe the memory.

I already tried the incorrect password 10 times...this does not work.

Also, the security->wipe handheld option is not there.

any other way beside hooking it up to a PC and using the software?

That's weird that the 10 password tries didn't work & wipe handheld isn't there...I think you'll have to hook it up and use the desktop manager. Or, if it's on a BES, you can wipe from there (I'm guessing it's not, because you'd probably know that).

yup, that's only available from BES 4.0 and above and handhelds with 4.0 and above software :(

there's got to be a way to do it without the desktop software...grr

That's weird. I just wiped a 7280 recently using the 10 passwords trick. It prompts you to enter "blackberry," then shows you the password as you type rather than the *'s, then another word ("blackberry" again?), then it warns you it'll wipe it...

When I was doing it, I swear a few of my password attempts didn't register as attempts (the password prompt should show you: "Enter Password (#/10):" where # is the number of times you attempted).

from that I was able to reset it...

it turns out that if your password is say 5 characters and you only input 1 character password 20 times, it still does not register it as one wrong password. so, I entered 10 incorrect passwords all 5 characters in lengh....it worked!

thanks! :D
