Does anyone know how to unlock Nvidia Bios?

I have a 6800go ultra from a dell XPS gen 2 that has locked bios and doesn't allow manual overclocking. Anyone here have the expierence to unlock the card? No other third party program will OC.

Only Auto OC works. So far the only way to change the clocks is by modifng the bios and then reflashing.

I can send you my bios.

Be happy with your system, stop trying to overclock to gain a few fps because when your battery dies while flashing or the bios is corrupt, i'll be here laughing.

Good job answering his question. :roll: If anything, find out what brand your card is and try that original bios from the manufacturer. Then add a third party program to see if that works.

To attain that I need to modify the bios in HEX.

The card sports 12 pipes, 5 Vertex Shaders and Samsung 1.6ns ram...Core (NV42) and memory are clocked at 450/1060. So far we cannot manaully overclock these beasts, since dell has locked us out. Sager, another laptop maker that supplies the 6800go Ultra with their computers can be manually overclocked..... So far the only way to change the clocks is to physically edit the bios in Hex and reflash, and NiBiTor now support my bios

No third party program will manually OC the card (coolbits, Rivatuner) I have tried to flash the sager bios despite the fact that they had different board ID's (NV41 for the Sager 6800go Ultra/NV42 for the Dell 6800go Ultra) Of course that ultimately runined the card (it was being sent back anyways)...didn't make sence because I am pretty sure the Ultras had the NV42 cores...but anyways...

Anyone out there know of anything?

Just let it automatically overclock, or build a desktop PC.

What do you mean it wont let you manually OC. Does it just say tests failed, do you get artifacts, or is the option just not there (it is always there).

I seriously dont know how they did it but that stupid little company has the entire gaming world convinced that they arnt digital beans if you dont have a decent 3dmark score

By showing you my 3DMark, you can get a better idea of where my card stands.

Auto OC takes the core up to 545 from 450, not stable.

When I say it won't manually OC I mean you hit test and the clocks don't change.

#1, we dont need to know where your card stands. 3dMark is probably the most innacurate benchmark ever. The companies can optimize for it, and it doesn't accurately represent real gaming performance. For instance the Geforce FX series always beat the Radeons in 3dMark. However in games the Radeons slaughtered the FX's.

#2, how do you know 545 isn't stable. Have you ran through some real games with it. If/When you do that, if there are artifacts it is unstable. If not it is, obviously, fine.

#3, test doesn't change the clocks. Test merely tests those settings. You select the settings hit test, and then apply those changes.

Finally, if you are so hellbent on OCing this poor card, then in Riva Tuner there is an option to manually input clockspeeds (any clockspeeds). I haven't used it in a ~year so i cannot remember exactly where it is.

Oh yeah, it may not be changing because it is a mobile chip, and keeps throttling down everytime you change it since you are not in a 3d application.

Yes it 545 is unstable, want to know why? the core default is 450, do you think a 95MHz OC is stable? Oh and it immediatly freezes when you play a game.

No it is not throttling down, the card is locked against OCing. You can auto OC just fine, it just takes the core clock way to high.

#2. It freezes in what way. DOes it hard lock where you have to hit the reset button or is it "CTRL+ALT+DEL-able"

#3. The card cannot be locked from OCing. Explain how you think they would do this. Dont you think someone would have complained already if that were the case.

#4. How do you know it isn't throttling down? If it is in 2D mode why would it be running full tilt. Have a game up and running and then look at your clockspeeds.

#1 The card has much much more potiential, thats why I want to OC, why does everyone else OC?

#2 When I say it freezes I mean I have to hold the power button to reboot it.

#3 I don't know how they locked it. They just did... If you complain to a big company like Dell do you think they are going to let you OC their products.....? lol....

#4 Why would it throtlle down? It's not heating up. If you use the rivatuner graph and set the clocks they will not change.

The card doesn't have that much more potential. Some people OC for fun, some for more performance. RIght now your games run fine, why put the extra strain on your components until you need to.

They cannot simply lock it. Dell locks there computers by simply not giving you the OCing options in the bios. They dont lock it. You cannot lock a card from OCing. You can have a bad card, which has no headroom however.

Because that is what the Go series does. It runs at the minimum power and speed settings until needed. Im not saying it is throttling from being too hot, but it is a mobile chip and is conserving power in ever way possible. Run a 3d Game and look at the graphs while it is running. Probably clocks up to its full speed 3d clocks.

I just set the clocks to 475/1.11, tested changes with riva tuner open..nothing happend. ran the CSS bench again and got 81fps.

This card has a core voltage of 1.37 in 3D, 1.1 on battery.

OH BTW I probably should mention this. If I run the 71.89 driver, manual OC will work. BUT there is a problem, every time I enter a 3D app the screen will flicker and the clocks will go back down to stock. If I keep setting the clocks and reopening the program a few times I can get my OC to stick. No other driver has done this.

It must be something with the mobile version of the chipset.

Use the manual override in Riva tuner. Like i said, cant remember where it is, but you can manually go and type in the clockspeed you want.

The BIOS controls only the default clocks. OCing does not change the BIOS in anyway. Did you make sure to enable that option and hit apply.

Yeah set it to 400, and checked the checkmark.

Gamingphreek, the bioses are in fact locked, and currently the only way to OC them is via flash (before you ask, yes, I have one). There is no known direct modification that can be made to the bios (via hex) at this time that will remove this lock.

I dislike the fact that Dell sent them that way, but it's at their discretion, I suppose.

I'm running mine at 525/650 (as on Notebookforums, that is the highest preconfigured modified bios they have), and things are running fairly smoothly. I may take a run myself and start modifying bioses by request.

Ronin, DL the latest version of NiBitor (2.3), I submitted the author my bios and you can now change the clocks to your desire

I did test it myself, all I did was a 450/1100 and it worked fine.

Help me here guys, I was looking through the sager 6800 go ultra bios and found this

On the left is the Sager bios and on the right is the Dell bios. If both are ultra cards and the sager bios clearly state NV42 why does it have a board ID of NV41?

What would happen if I matched the sager bios to look like this

Should I also modify the second like so that e275 sk (sager) reads P324 sk (dell)?

Could changing the board ID's on the sager to match the dell make for a successful flash?
