In my root directory I have a _restore directory, it has millions of files in it, when I do virus scans they take hours because it has to scan everyone of those files.. I really want to get rid of that directory, I know I could probably boot up with a boot disk and delete them from DOS, but is there a way to tell windows to not use that directory?

I disabled System Restore ages ago, and only have a few files in there: 64k, so I have just left it alone

To get rid of system restore go to system properties, performance tab, file system, troubleshooting tab, and check "disable system restore"... afterwards restart and you can safely delete the files in teh restore directory... I wouldn't delete the folder though
