I changed some win2k services from "automatic" to "manual" and all weird things happened.
I tried to change them back but the service manager always freezed in the middle.
Does anyone know how to change them in registry manually?
You can changes services through the Recovery Console, which is on your Win2k CD. Also, this page shows you the reg settings if you want to do it that way.
To load the Recovery Console as a boot-time option (F8) for the next time this happens, put in your Windows 2000 CD, go to Start -> Run and type in X:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons where "X" is the CD-ROM drive letter (note there is a space between "winnt32.exe" and "/cmdcons"😉.
You can find out how to fix fsked up services here at 3D Spotlight. It's a page or two into this article (which is probably the best Win2000 services tweaking article I've seen).
