Does anyone know how much it cost to make the Lord of the Ring series?

Cause I just came back from seeing The Two Towers and man, so far the two movies have looked very expensive to make, especially since they are both over 3 hours long.

I've heard a few numbers

first thing I heard was that New Line gave them a budget of 190 Million and that was for all 3 films but that was dated Summer of 99'

Also numerous other sites report that Fellowship had a production budget of 109 million

I've also heard numerous times that the 300 million+ that Fellowship brought in was more than enough to cover the cost of all 3 films.

I think it was mentioned in the LOTR: FOTR extended dvds with PJ, his wife, Philipia something (the 3rd writer) doing commentary they mentioned the budget ending up to be around $250-270 million for all three who knows how much it will be with the re-shoots.

From [/i]TIME

"Jackson, a relatively unknown director who seldom stepped foot outside New Zealand and who was best known for quirky, low-budget films, was given a $270 million budget. The cost ultimately climbed to $310 million. "

thats the one

but the first one raked in some 850 million worldwide, so basically everything now is profit, must rule to be new line

makes me wonder what kinda cut jackson gets
