Does anyone know how much Best Buy pays employees?

I might be getting a job at Best Buy, working in the computer dept (of course) and was wondering what they pay their employees. If anyone has had any experience with this please post. Also, how are the benefits for part time employees, and how do they treat their employees.

Thanks,
Geoff

how old are you? i am 17 and i couldn't get a summer job even Mcdonalds...(in NYC)
ive missed all my opportunity to work during the summer, but still in search for one during School...never tried Bestbuy do they take 17yr olds? i need a job

I think the majority here will recommend staying away from Best Buy due to corporate philosophy of aggressively pushing warranty plans to as many people as possible. Pay is a little over minimum wage, no benefits.

usually i'd be against this sort of thing, but two years ago i bought a WD 60gB 2mb cache drive at Future Shop (owned by Best Buy) and for whatever reason was conned into getting the product service plan or PSP. Anyways last night the western starts making these crazy noises. Remembering that i had paid an extra 20 bucks to insure the drive, i backed everything up, wiped it hardcore (7 passes with bcwipe hehe) and returned it. At first they offered to give me a Cicero (which is the store brand, but hds provided by maxtor) 80gB drive but i pressed on the girl a bit and she went back and got me a WD 80gb w/ 8mb cache. Anyways, i'm much happier now 🙂

so cliffs.... in rare cases the warranty plan can be useful.

Best Buy was a truely great place to work back in... Let's see...1995 or so...

Worked at 2 different stores and it was great. Lots of people who knew their stuff and just wanted to have a good time. Then just when I was done there they started changing the philosophy and most people left. Now BB is what it is today and it pretty much sucks.

My friend Ali works in security and I think he makes 8.00 an hour, maybe 8.30 or 9.00 ..... Pretty good for a job while in school down here (Lafayette, Louisiana).

I've heard Best Buy pays great commissions to those who push the extended service plans.

Well I'm probably gonna work on the Geek Squad, does anyone know about that?
Up here in Canada, an university student working part time in the Computer Dept (me) pulled $10 hourly. Geek Squad members maxed at $12.
