Does anyone know how I can fast forwad time

I remember from previous versions that there was an option to speed up time, so when you make long flights you don't actually have to wait for the entire real time to get to your destination...

Thanks dude! That does work "r" and "+" speeds up time, and "r" and "-" slows it back down.

BTW do you know if there's a way to get the autopilot to get you aligned with the runway on the final approach? Either that, or is there a way to get instructions for the final leg because I find it pretty hard aligning with the runway with big aircrafts when I only use visual contact to identify the runway.

The easy way, follow the controllers instructions for vectors to final and tune nav1 and nav2 to the ILS frequency. Use the autopilot to descend to your assigned altitude, approach the ILS from below, make sure the nav/gps switch is set to nav. When you see the needle on your MFD move press the 'APR' autopilot setting. Now your airplane will follow the glide slope right to the runway, you just need to deal with your flaps, gear, spoilers, airspeed, etc. At 100ft AGL turn off the autopilot and land the plane.

Cool! thanks for the elaborated explanation man. I'll try it now. I'm still not a 100% with all the nav1 & nav2 settings, but I'll try what you just wrote.

Just to be precise on this one, none of the AP's on FS-X have the ability to actually land the plane (yep I looked it up...), but it can align it with the runway which is very important especially for people who lack talent like me. ;)

Actually if you leave the plane on autopilot following the ILS it will probably land itself fine, but you would need to stop it. You can get an autoland system that you can add to your panels as well. But as JRich said, it's more fun to land the plane yourself.

It's a good idea to follow through at least some of the tutorials so you can at least learn the basics.

OK, here's what I did on a very short flight to try the above (737-800):
1. prior to take off I looked at the map for the airport I was to land in, and checked for ILS frequencies and heading.
2. I set nav1 to the ILS frequency and turn it on (on the radio panel)
3. I set the heading for the ILS (not the main one, but the other - I forgot its name)
4. took off, followed controller instructions, got within 25 miles of the destination.
5. I looked for needles moving on the MFD, but there were no needles there appearing nor moving.
6. After banging my head a little trying to understand why the hell it doesn't work, then I looked at the backup altimeter thing, and when I played with one of its buttons, all of a sudden two yellow parallel lines appeared. I figured that's my ILS thing...
7. Upon getting closer to the destination, the horizontal line started moving, I figured indicating I was in the wrong altitude. When that happened, I realized ILS is working, and I pushed the APP button.
8. From here on it all went wrong, while the horizontal line moved, the vertical line stayed put at the left hand side, the APP button didn't seem to do the job I thought it supposed to.
9. Bottom line, I did manage to align correctly with the runway, but over shot it...

What am I doing wrong?

Edit: nav/gps button was set to nav

You got it right except it sounds like you intercepted the glide slope from above, you must intercept it from below. On the side of your MFD is a bar with a needle which indicates your position on the glide slope, when you press the 'app' button the needle must be above center.

Are you sure its the MFD and not the backup altimeter? And if it is the MFD, then on which side of it can I see the needle? Thanks.

Don't know what you mean by backup altimeter. What airplane are you flying? To make it easy try flying the Baron 58 or the Mooney Bravo first, use the 2D panel because it's easier to find controls.

Here's some screens that might help you.

This first one is taken just before I press the APR control on the autopilot. Notice I am below the glideslope.

Approaching the airport:camera:

The next one is taken after the APR button is pressed and the airplane is lining up with the runway horizontally.

Following the ILS:camera:

The last one is taken just after the autopilot has intercepted the glide slope, notice the altitude control automatically turns off when you intercept the glide slope and the airplane will try to decend along the glide slope, watch your speed. Turn autopilot off at 100ft and land the plane manually.

On Final:camera:

Finally, and I can't stress this enough, do the tutorials in the learning center. The one that deals with this is 'instrument pilot lesson #2'.;)

Thanks guys, I'll read both the tutorials and fly the lesson, hopefully I'll get the hang of it :)
