Does anyone know for sure about PCIe 1.0 and 8800GTs?

I have an ABIT AA8XE. Since it doesn't say anything about the version of its PCIe, I'm guessing it's 1.0. Does anyone know for sure whether or not the 8800GT will work with it?

My 8800GTS 512 (G92) works wonderfully on my old DFI NF4 Lan Party... and that is definitly a PCIe 1.0 slot.

Almost all PCIe (there are rare occasions) are compatible.
i.e.
PCIe 2.0 cards work in PCIe 1.0 slots and PCIe 1.0 cards work in PCIe 2.0 slots.

EDIT: Welcome to AT.

I know that the official word is that they're all backward compatible, but I've heard stories about GTs not playing well with 1.0. I was hoping someone had experience with a 1.0 slot, or even better an AA8XE.

If someone said that their 8800GT didn't work w/ their PCI-E 1.0 slot then they probley did something wrong. My 8800GT works in my P35 mobo.
People are idiots, buy the 8800GT and be happy.

I have tried an hd 3870,and an 8800gt.Neither worked in my asus a8v-e deluxe motherboard.I know for certain they are not all backward compatible.I have been building computers for 5 years,so I am sure I know how to install a video card.
