i am just curious. i am a recent graduate and it seems quite difficult to apply for a federal position. i mean the steps seem rather complicated. is this normal or is it just me? also are there any websites i might use as a resource?

thanks

It probably depends on where you want to work in the government. Where I work, it was just like applying for any other job.

It's a long, drawn out process at best.

April - submitted "application" + resume at job fair
late June- called in for interview and tentatively offered position by mgr
July - completed official application and had medical examination
end of August - started job
September of FOLLOWING year - officially boarded (now a full fledge Federal employee :)

I feel lucky, it took some of my coworkers 3 years to be officially boarded.

Yep its a pain in the ass but I got in easily. I started out as a SCEP (intern) which made the whole process much more simple.

I dont think you can get an internship after you have graduated. also, I didnt know it can take up to three years before you can get hired.

I worked for the Federal government most of my life. Ok, not actually in their employ, but I paid so dammed much in taxes, that I felt like I was working FOR them...
