I ?m applying for a job and they mention it as a nice to have. Even if I don't have it I would like to be able to discuss it if it comes up in an interview. Problem is I went to MS?s site and I still am not 100% sure what it?s for and how it works. It looks like it's for document distribution and tracking.
 
That's part of it. Sharepoint Portal can be used as an entry point to any number of web based applicaitons a business may use. Such things as sharing calendars, collaborating on documents, project tracking, Intranet, creation of extranets and so forth. It is an enormously powerful tool.
