I'm applying for a Staples job, I was wonder what was the starting wage for sales associates. I had my interview today with the assistant manager and he was unable at tell me what the starting wage would be, only the manager is able to and I don't have an interview with him until next Thursday. I want to know the starting wage so I can make a decision whether to go ahead an pursue this or not.
 
It usually varies depending on your experience, its not really just set. When I started at CompUSA for my first job, (given it was ~9 years ago) me and three friends that started at the same time all got different starting wages between 7 and 8 dollars an hour. I'd expect it would be around that range.
 
I believe my friend started around $8/hr (give or take $1) when he started. After several years, I don't think he makes that much more.
 
Friend of mines started at $7.85 in the Staples NYC store on 34th st. He stood there for about 3 years and left @ $8.75/hr.

I started at $8/hr in CompUSA on 5th Ave, but I was a phone sales rep, not an "on the floor" salesperson. I finished there @ $8.50 after 6 months, when I was promptly laid off.

All this was back in 1999, although I think they make even less today. lol
