I'd have to agree with Specop 007, non-people related things are what I'd do. SPCA or similar would be my route. Animals have no way to defend or help themselves whereas people do. Besides, think about all the cute little kitties...

I volunteer at my church as the IT Director who oversees upgrades and maintainance of 7-8 workstations and servers. Plus, we use multimedia and presentation apps for the sunday services.
 
I volunteer time for my local animal shelter. I also support a soldier with letters and cards and care packages from home. I also give money to the animal shelters and VFW.

there is a animal shelter close to our house too. i am thinking i will contact them. The problem with that is that i forsee myself wanting to bring every animal home with me. 😱
 
I volunteered with the local ambulance corps for a while and absolutely loved it. I swear I Never abused the sirens or the lights!

Soup kitchens. LolaWiz, do you live downtown? Many soup kitchen in urban areas.

It isn't for everyone though. Try a hospital. Volunteers are always needed.
 
In the past I've volunteered at a county jail/INS holding center teaching computers, at a medical clinic at a homeless shelter, after school program for inner city youth, and an animal shelter, and am now trying to find time to get trained to do glaucoma exams. Personally working at the shelter was the roughest knowing that a lot of the animals were going to be put down.

:thumbsup: Same here. Some other suggestions:
Perhaps joining a club (depending on how active they are). Rotary/Kiwanis/Lions
Kiwanis particularly is more children-oriented. Rotary does some great things like build shelters. Not really sure about Lions.
