Does anyone here own a subaru outback?

I'm driving an '00 impreza outback (the impreza wagon sports edition outback thingamabob - so many bloody names I'm not sure what its technically called).

Its my mother's car but I've been primary driver on it for the last 13,000 km and I have to say I really like this car. Its an automatic - do NOT get the automatic. 145 horsepower and automatic in these things = pretty pathetic acceleration (about 11 seconds). 5 speed should get you around 9 seconds. The impreza RS 2.5 with a manual is a sweet combo though with 165 horsepower.

Anyway not to blabber but yes its a nice car. It handles extremely well and feels to be of good quality. It starts on a dime regardless of weather I've been in so far (atlantic canada winter). It's gas milage rather sucks ass, however. I'm getting about 22 mpg in city.

I've had it in a couple of snow storms and it laughs at them. I like to pretend I'm racing people at the lights...their two wheels spin into oblivion and I take off.

These things aren't particularly cheap and not particularly fast but they are good quality, of a solid build, and they look nice.

If you're looking at full-size subarus, like just the "outback" the new VDC ones have a 200+ horsepower engine. They are extremely pricey but apparently a damn sweet car.

I bought my wife a Legacy Outback Ltd Edition in '97. It has run very well and it handles extremely well. The AWD is great. We bought the automatic (I can't drive stick shift, I never learned) and the power seems fine.

I was a comprimise when our daughter was born. We both didn't want a minivan. She was interested in an SUV but I got her to try the Outback and she really liked it.
