I agree too that religion now has very little to do with the event.
The Grumpies above who declame commercialism or false religiousness might walk on the other side. A few of us know what's it like to spend this period alone. Try it .I'd give it a -3/10. Then you'd fully appreciate the real benefit of Christmas and how much goodness one might cram into such a short time, before you have to get back to the "real" world. Think well before decrying this gentle, sweet interregnum set aside largely for children today but available to all of us, to let in and express kindness and generosity in our otherwise humdrum, selfie lives.

Don't get me wrong or misunderstand my pedantic ramblings...I'm all in favor of celebrating what-the-fuck-ever you want...any time, any where...I just think it's funny as fuck that people who are non-religious, anti-religion, atheist, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, East African Jojoba Tree worshipers...what ever...celebrating Christmas.

I think it's funny as fuck for christians to celebrate Christmas too. If the Muslims suddenly decided that they like the 4th of July and wanted to steal it so that their prophet could be involved and then completely invented a backstory to pretend to believe that date had special significance because it supposedly was the first time Mohammed masturbated, you'd think they were idiots. You'd say that they're sad and pathetic and stupid enough to believe any lies their leaders told them to believe and that Mohammed had nothing to do with July 4th and that they're just proving what mindless sheep they were being dragged into a completely invented "holiday". In short, that would be exactly the same as christians celebrating Christmas.

In my family we never really had the "religious underpinnings" to our Christmas celebrations, but also none of the perhaps more legit reasons to celebrate it either. It's always just been a good enough reason for everyone to get together, enjoy each other's company over good food and drink etc. I've always thought it's silly in the sense that it's really just another day of the year, but why not heh? If it gets everyone together and happy, it's a good thing. I don't have any strong feelings about it personally, so I don't mind. I do think that people go way overboard with the "christmas spending" nonsense though. I mean, blowing all kinds of cash, going in debt even - just "because" christmas? F all that noise. That's not the point at all. But meh.

One of the radio stations I used to work at started Christmas music after Halloween. It was horrible. Sweaters don't bother me, but I could do without the crappy Christmas covers on the local radio station. "All you need is Elves". So bad.

Yeah, a good light display is neat. I like the food.

Other than that, don't really care. Most Christmases I work. My wife likes the decorating and stuff and I'm good with that. A nice dinner with select family is nice.
