Does anyone here not have internet at their residence?

I don't. I use dodgy wifi from neighbors in my neighborhood. If I'm not using my CC on anything, is it safe?

I'm unemployed at the moment, so adding DSL or Cable to this house isn't an option. Anyone else in the same boat?

It depends what you mean by "safe". Could your neighbors theoretically capture every packet you send through their network? Yes. And that is far from the limit of the malicious things they could do, but in reality you probably have nothing to worry about.

"Safe" is all a matter of personal threshold.

All of your internet traffic can potentially be monitored or altered by the router you are connecting to. If they wanted to, they could do something malicious like steal passwords, insert viruses into web pages, or redirect your queries for a particular server to any other server they wanted. The odds of them doing that, though, are quite low due to the technical difficulty.

For browsing ATOT, sure it's safe enough (unless you really value your ATOT password). For transactions with your bank, that's your call.

I ran without the net for about 8 months; it wasn't all that bad. I just checked stuff while at work.

Not when you log in and they're sent in cleartext.
Only if you're stupid enough to have Javascript turned off.

It makes me laugh that people think they're more secure without JS, when JS itself is the implementation vessel for much of our online security. People are stupid.

I do, but its really shitty and laggy. But it's free, so I shouldn't complain.
