Does anyone here metal detect? (Or, am I that big of a geek?)

I have been metal detecting for several years now and I find it to be a relaxing and enjoyable hobby. While I haven't found thousands of dollars worth of lost valuables, Ihave found oer $300 in coins alone and several nice rings, one being worth $200! Just wondering if anyone else enjoyed the hobby.

I've always envied people who had the determination to scour the world for lost treasure. I do not share the quest though.

Where do you search for your treasure?

I haven't done it (primarily since I don't have any good places to look), but it seems interesting. A few months ago someone about 5 miles away found a gold coin which was only the second one of its type to be discovered, and it sold for over $40,000. The big mystery was that it was a privately-minted coin from the California gold rush in the mid-1800s, but the coin was found in Western PA.

I live a hundred yards from a large sandy beach, visited by hundreds of tourist each day. I've been thinking of getting a decent metal detector for years now.
