I've been wanting to get into making DVDs of my favorite programs (simpsons, smallville, alias, etc.) using a satellite and either a Tivo or ReplayTV. Does anyone on ATOT make their own DVDs? If so I have a few questions for you:
What type of hard disk recorder do you use? (Tivo series 1 or 2, Replay 4000, 5000 etc.)
How do you connect the HDR to your PC? (nic, usb, firewire)
What kind of transfer rates do you get when moving video from the HDR to the PC? (for example how long does it take to transfer a 1 hour program)
How are the files on the HDR usually stored? (mpg2, mpg3, avi, etc)
What is your success rate in retrieving files from the HDR? (is there any video or sound corruption, damaged files or missing data, bad headers, etc.)
Do you have to do any conversion of the files before they can be edited or burned to a DVD?
Whats the best format for burning DVDs to ensure the highest degree of compatability?
Whats the best HDR choice for someone who's looking to transfer files to a PC after recording from a satellite?
Thanks for any info
