Does anyone here know enclosed trailers?

I'm interested in getting a 5x8 or 6x10 trailer for my band. But I'm having a hard time gauging how much they are worth, especially in the used arena. Ideally, I'd like to keep it under $1000, but it doesn't seem even used trailers go for that, unless you find a sweet deal at a random auction, or police auction. Brand new 5x8s seem to go for over $2000.

Could anyone tell me how much this trailer is worth? I know it sucks that you can't go and see it...but it's starting to approach the $1000 mark, and I'm about to give up on it. I've been bidding on it, but the price just keeps going up.

I have found a couple home made trailers on Craigslist, and might check them out too. No titles.

That's pretty cheap for that trailer. I bought a 8 x 12 in excellent shape used for $2600 and I consider that a deal. If you got the trailer posted for $1500, it would still be a deal.

Man that thing looks beat. I would be afraid of water damage to the wood given the condition of the exterior. I guess there's a reason its cheap.

It's been dinged up alright but, the pics looked pretty good as far as structure and utility. The reason trailers hold their value til the tongue falls off is their utility which doesn't depend on looks. If the OP has done much looking at trailers, he'll discover enclosed trailers are fairly expensive.

Yep...I have done a lot of looking. I guess you're right. I don't know if this one is totally worth $1500... I saw a newer one on CL locally, that was in much better condition (no glaring visible flaws like this one) for $1500. I might be better off just sucking it up and getting a nicer trailer for a little more money than trying to save some money and end up buying a POS that leaks.

If you can find a better trailer for $1500 go for it by all means. I just wanted to communicate that short of a minor miracle, you're not going to find an enclosed trailer in any shape for $1000.

Well that one isn't available anymore, anyways :p I just called the guy about the trailer in the OP, door latches and locks, doesn't leak. Just looks real rough. Probably going to keep bidding and see where it goes... I set my max at $1000 for now, so we'll see. Auction ends next week.

Utility trailers hold their value for a very long time, because there isn't much to go wrong with them. When I was looking for a dump trailer I ended up buying a new one because the price difference didn't justify buying used.

Yeah, I'm not going to let this one go any higher...probably just gonna buy a new one myself if this one doesn't work out.

I sold my 6x12 enclosed earlier this year. It was a '94 Intl, completely refurbed with new floor with Herculiner coating, new wiring and loom, a new roof vent and did not leak. For its age, it was in good shape save for needing new tires.

I had it at 1350 and it generated about 12 email inquiries. So many guys seemed very interested, but only 2 came to look at it. Got a lowball offer of 1k on it, but I wasn't going lower since it was easily worth what I was asking. I sold it for 1200 to the second guy to look at it. I told him to replace the tires before filling it up with his junk and moving to FLA, but I doubt he took my advice.

So now I'm looking for a 5x8 utility/landscape trailer and finding I'm damn near going to pay $750 for that. It would ALMOST make more sense to have kept my enclosed, but it also weighs twice as much as the open one I am now looking for, and my V6 SUV suffers greatly towing that 1,000 lb trailer with a 600 lb. ATV in it.

So the trailer has some cosmetic issues, but mostly just needs a new door, lock, and hinges. I found a great site online with the parts I needed (etrailer.com).

Might post up a little DIY trailer repair thread while I work on it...
