Does anyone here have the T-Mobile Dash?

I'm considering going with T-Mobile from Nextel and am considering either the BB Pearl or the Dash. I notice at Amazon.com there are several negative reviews towards the Dash.

Some of the major complaints have been about the touch-slide volume control and how it's easily messed with when you have the phone against your ear.

Another concern is that of syncing it with Outlook and computer in general is error prone/buggy.

Are there any other major complaints you guys have?

The only reason I see the advantage of going with the Dash over the BB Pearl is that you don't have to add on a data plan and you can just use whatever wireless hotspots are available to you with the Dash.

Thanks guys, good afternoon as well.

Yeah, it's kind of annoying when you touch the strip and it interuppts what you are doing...then when you actually want to use it, it doesn't respond.

I have it syncing with Exchange from work. Although it works well, it pisses me off that I have to manually change the folders to see any subfolders in my inbox. If all you use is an inbox, with nothing under it, then it's OK I guess. Also, I hate the way gmail works on it. As soon as you read an email, it disappears, never to be seen again.

Dreadful battery life. If I leave it alone for 2 days, it'll be dead.
The alarm seems to be random, and even though I disabled it, it still goes off...lol.
MY ABSOLUTE HUGEST COMPLAINT, is when I use MSN messenger, the phone automatically adds the entire hotmail inbox to it, and it's a pain in the bottom to remove. This one quirk makes me not use MSN on it at all.

Another advantage is that you can load tons of smartphone apps. For example, I carry around anime, and a bunch of videos using TCPMP. For this alone, I believe the phones > blackberry. Also, WMIRC (irc chat proggie) looks and works absolutely wonderful on it. These two features alone make this phone my favorite phone of all time. I also have little nice things like google maps, pocketNes and pointless apps + a ton of crap on my microSD card (music, etc.)

I am just waiting for my 3.5" headphone adapter to arrive in the mail so I can play my tunes over my car's stereo. :)

Thanks guys, good afternoon as well.

I don't personally have one, but I've tested and set up a dozen or so. I think they're pretty great little WinMo phones and hope to trade out my MDA for one.

amdhunter, maybe I can help you with a few of your gripes:

1) The touchstrip. Check out this thread at xda developers with an app to change what the strip does. It will probably still get accidentally pressed, but at least it will be more useful. You'll have to register to DL.

2) GMail disappearing messages, this is a problem with lots of mobile devices. To fix, you need to log in to GMail in "recent mode." Just prepend your username in the settings with "recent:" So for example recent:loupgarou@gmail.com That should fix it.

Battery life isn't amazing, but I'd say its on par with most smartphones except for Blackberries. RIM is just amazing at squeezing battery life out of their devices.

The alarm issue seems to happen with all of TMobile's WinMo devices. I had it when my MDA was running the stock TMo ROM. Upgrading to various ROMs, it went away.

The Live messenger contact integration is a HUGE headache with my MDA as well. Now I have all of my messenger contacts on my exchange server and lately, some have been duplicating. VERY annoying.

As a final word, I'd recommend upgrading your Dash to WM6. You can look around xda devs for info/ROMs. WM6 is a huge, huge, huge improvement. Speed & stability are much better, shortcut keys for almost everything, Office Mobile apps included. If you don't want to void your warranty or risk bricking your phone, TMo will be releasing their WM6 ROM sometime in the future...

I have one, and overall I like it quite a lot. Most of what I like is more about Windows Mobile and not so much the device itself, but the Dash is a solid device.

The touch strip is horrible. If you set the sensitivity higher than the default you won't have the problem of hitting it during a call, but it's still a horrible idea. The lack of tactical feedback just makes it awkward to use.

The alarm problem happens to me too. It goes off at random times.

Those are my only complaints.

picking one at the end of this month, mostly becuase of the 5.99$ unlimited internet deal

the problems listed above sound ANNOYING. what all is involved in getting WM6 on the phone? i was hoping for it to be a capable replacement for my X31 PDA... no touch screen but hopefully just as useful

Ha, I forgot about the jogger utility, I downloaded but never got around to trying it out. As for WM6, I haven't put it in yet since it is my work-provided phone...I am gonna wait till I can take it to a T-Mobile store and upgrade it.

I'll look into the messenger into Exchange thing, it never occured to me to do that...
