Charter has apparently made 5Mb and 10Mb service available in my area. Right now I'm paying $50/mo for 3Mb service. I was wondering if anyone had the 5 or 10 service and could tell me what the upload speeds are. I'm wanting to run a Teamspeak server from my house, but my current 190Kb/s upload speeds are just too slow.

I thought Charter would never deliver on their promises. I guess there's some advantage to being in one of the fastest growing counties in America.

where are you located?
I'm in SoCal and was able to get in on a special "5Mb preview" on the 3Mb price. I think i have it until Feb.

I'm in Southwest Mississippi. When I moved in here in December, Charter said that Katrina had screwed up their plans to roll out better services here. It looks like they've caught back up. Maybe HDTV service will be here soon...

I'd say give'em a call and ask if the free 5Mb preview is available and, if so, switch you over. Worse that will happen is they'll say no and that's that.

For me, I had it in my old place. When i moved to the new place, the first rep didn't know what i was talking about so I called again and talked to a tech who switched me right over.

I have it in Madison WI. They suck. My ping doesn't drop below 300 (TO FUCKING CHICAGO SERVERS) until around 11pm CST. They are a freaking rip off, but my only choice.

I have the 5mb down 512 up.

Sustained dl of max 600KB, ul of 60KB.

I have charter and have had the 3 5 and 10 packages. SOCAL.

Speeds are usually pretty close to what they should be. HOWEVER, I hate their customer service, very very frustrating. I once had a speed problem for 6+ months. I kept logs of the speed every day for six months, that?s dedication. A log of when I called and whom I talked to. They always claimed they were working on it and then eventually after I hounded them for a long time they admitted it was net saturation. I was pinging 1000+.

When they work they are great, when they don?t they are a pain, the only reason I am still with them is because lines are too old for DSL in my area. I really wish they customer service was better. Whenever they call to offer me TV or other packages I just refer to my old problem that took them 6 months to fix and ask them if they can guarantee that will not happen again. They never can.

Other than that really long drawn out problem I would say there are speed issues maybe 1x a month for about 2 hours and the internet goes down about 1x every month for a few hours.

Bottom line, Great when it works, big pain when it doesn?t.

3mb/256k (being phased out in a lot of areas)
5mb/512k (excellent for the price)
10mb/1mb (lots of people complain about not getting close to the max limits; my friend across town does)
16mb/2mb (coming soon to a non FiOS area near you)

I have the 5mb service and it's fast when it works, their reliability in my area of TX absolutely sucks. I've had it for many years the first 2-3yrs were very good, but the outages have been almost daily for the last couple of years.
