Thanks!

I had a Kindle 1.0. The only major design flaw was the ginormous buttons, which they fixed in version 2.0. I really liked being able to get books anywhere, anytime. The E-ink screen is really nice to read on. Do you have any experience with E-Ink screens?

love my Kindle but haven't seen a reason to upgrade to a Kindle2 when I just bought it 3 months ago.

for me, the price was worth it if for nothing else than the fact that I'm perpetually running out of space to put books.

make sure you can stand the way the e-ink works. I personally could not deal w/ the minor delay in refreshing the screen. At least, w/ the 1.0. Supposedly 2.0 is faster, but it still seems very annoying.

Way overpriced for what it does.
I can get other portables and put a pdf on it . Better display and more features.

i haven't upgraded yet. i don't think i'll upgrade until my kindle 1 dies or gets stolen

a few friends have upgraded, the new one seems really nice. case & locking system is a great new upgrade, as are the buttons and the 'read it to me' feature

You know I'm just gonna buy a tablet pc with multi-touch feature that's also convertible notebook with windows 7 instead of wasting my money on Kindle sequels, I guess the next one will have color......good way to stimulate the economy in these troubled times. Doesn't it look weird if you run around carrying half a dozen gadgets instead of one device that does all?

To be honest, yes. It obviously varies depending on the book, but it's extra page flips. Doesn't sound like much, but just pointing it out. It obviously doesn't bother the majority (or maybe they just don't want to admit it after spending $350+ :)).

I also don't read enough to benefit from having a kindle, so it's something I wouldn't easily overlook. But it seems to be a big hit for everyone in general. Especially heavy travelers.

the kindle is a lot smaller and more light weight than any tablet I've ever used, not to mention significantly longer battery life.

can't really think of a situation where I'd be running around carrying half a dozen gadgets... for the most part, my kindle stays in my bedroom or in the hotel room if I'm on the road. I don't generally walk around with a book in my hands 24/7 (or at least I haven't since junior high when I realized how anti-social that was). it gets some portability when I take it to read in doctor office waiting rooms or on air planes, but that's about it.

I don't have ADD, so I don't have to run around with a camera/cellphone/hand-held video game player/web browser/dvd player/coloring book/novel just to keep myself entertained on a flight or on a train.

Then you don't really need a kindle, it's just a status issue with some people here- just like the iPhone, kindle is another gimmick. Do you want to read books on kindle? Come on........ just be realistic here. I was only mentioning something multi-purpose- that does everything, just to save money. All of these devices like netbooks, kindles etc are a big waste of money.

You can't really compare e-ink devices to regular LCD based devices. e-ink is supposed to feel like real paper so it's a lot easier on the eyes than LCD. If you don't read much or for some reason LCD doesn't bother you after hours of reading, then obviously the kindle isn't for you, but there is a real reason and market for devices like the kindle.

there are benefits that can't be calculated directly into the price, like not having to carry multiple books with me on the road, saving storage space in my apartment, not having to wait for a book to be delivered, etc... it was a life saver when I was in the hospital back in december. I was going through books like crazy because there was nothing else to do while stuck in the hospital room. I read like the entire Foundation series and all the Sookie Stackhouse books.

I like my netbook too  I mostly use it at work... I spend a lot of my day running around the building and am not necessarily always near a terminal, so it's nice to have something right next to me that I can use to log into the work servers with and communicate over our IM system, check out tickets, run pings, configure network ports, etc right in the server racks, and it's a lot more portable than my 15" notebook.

I actually just got my Kindle 2 in the mail yesterday, my first e-reader of any kind. I'm loving it so far. I've not read many books in my lifetime (I'm 28), but I've wanted to start reading. I hope the Kindle will help me do that by being extremely convenient. Book stores always intimidate me, and I didn't want to order online because there was a chance I would waste $20 on a book without being able to look at it first (plus I still don't really know what I like to read at this point).

With the Kindle, I can do everything from the device, and download a sample of any book in the store (a real winner in my eyes).

To be honest, yes. It obviously varies depending on the book, but it's extra page flips.

I'll actually argue against that. Since having it yesterday, I downloaded and read the Stephen King novella "Ur" that was written exclusively for the Kindle, and I've gotten used to pressing "Next Page" when I'm about 4 words away from the end of the page. It "turns" the page within 1 to 1.5 seconds, it definitely is the exact same as turning an actual page in a book.
